Mr Gwynne Howell OBE MBBS DipBioMech FRCS FRCS (Orth) Gwynne Howell qualified from Charing Cross Hospital Medical School in 1983. He subsequently joined the Royal Navy where he undertook basic surgical training, gaining his FRCS in 1990. He later became the Senior Surgeon in Gibraltar before commencing his Orthopaedic training in Portsmouth, Oxford, Edinburgh and Canada where he spent 1 year at the University of Ontario.

Mr David A Ward MBBS FRCS (Orth) FRCS (Ed) David Ward qualified from Westminster Medical School in 1985 and trained in Orthopaedics in London and Surrey, as well as undertaking a hip fellowship in Berne, Switzerland. He was appointed as a consultant to Queen Mary's Roehampton in 1995 and in 1997 the unit merged with Kingston Hospital.His special interests are hip replacement surgery (particularly young patients, complex cases and hip resurfacing) and revision hip surgery. Mr Richard E Field PhD FRCS FRCS (Orth) Following Orthopaedic training in London, Cambridge and Melbourne, Richard Field was appointed to the staff of St Helier Hospital, Carshalton, Surrey, in 1994. He has established an Orthopaedic Research Unit at St Helier Hospital and the South West London Elective Orthopaedic Centre, (SWLEOC) where he is Director of Research. Richard Field is a lower limb Orthopaedic Surgeon with particular interest in Hip replacement, the management of Hip Disorders in younger adults and the design of Hip Replacements. |

Mr Adrian Fairbank MA MBB Chir FRCS FRCS (Orth) Adrian Fairbank trained as a doctor at Cambridge University and St Thomas's Hospital and was appointed a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at St George's Hospital, London in 1996. Adrian was Surgical Tutor at St. George's for over three years, a post which encompasses the education of Orthopaedic Surgeons in training, and he sits on the Specialist Training Committee for the South Thames West Region. He has a sub specialist interest in knee surgery, regularly undertaking ligament reconstruction and knee replacement surgery at the Centre. He is involved in research in a number of areas around hip and knee surgery and has written many papers on the subject. Although a part time surgeon in the NHS, he is Director of the Wimbledon Knee Clinic, and between the two arenas undertakes over three hundred arthroscopies, 75 joint replacements, and 125 Cruciate reconstructions annually. He is also a father to four young energetic children. |

Mr Thomas Duncan Tennent FRCS (Orth) Duncan Tennent qualified at St. Bartholomew's Hospital, London in 1992 and undertook his registrar training at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, Stanmore, and was subsequently appointed as a consultant at St. George's Hospital in 2003. Duncan spent a year in America on a Sports Medicine and Arthroscopy Fellowship before returning to the UK to obtain further, post-fellowship experience in shoulder and elbow surgery. Duncan's practice is entirely shoulder and elbow surgery with particular interest in arthroscopic techniques for both joints. He has a commitment to research, holding the patent for a new technique for an arthroscopic shoulder procedure. Duncan also teaches regularly at both undergraduate and postgraduate level, convening several courses to teach arthroscopic surgery and also lecturing nationally and internationally. |

Mr Ajeya Raj Adhikari MS(Orth), MCh(Orth), FRCS(Orth) Mr. Adhikari trained in orthopaedics on the North-east Thames Registrars training rotation. He worked as a consultant orthopaedic surgeon at Kings College Hospital and University Hospital Lewisham for four years before moving to St. Helier Hospital in 1992 to help set up SWLEOC. Mr Mark Rickman MD FRCS (Tr &Ortho) Mark qualified from Sheffield University in 1994, and subsequently trained in Orthopaedics in Oxford. He obtained an MD in limb reconstruction in 2003, and passed the intercollegiate specialty exam in 2004. He has undertaken a 12 month fellowship in Arthroplasty surgery in Australia, and a pelvic / acetabular trauma fellowship for 6 months in Bristol. His current NHS commitments consist of orthopaedic and fracture clinics at St George's Hospital Tooting, arthroplasty lists at the new South West London Elective Orthopaedic Centre in Epsom, and trauma / pelvic trauma lists at St George's Hospital. He specialises in all aspects of lower limb surgery, with an emphasis on minimal incision arthroplasty surgery, as well as unicompartmental knee replacements and patello-femoral replacements. Mr Richard Hampton MBBS (London) FRCS (England) FRCS Richard Hampton qualified at St Thomas' Hospital Medical School London University MBBS in 1989. Following this he was a House Surgeon St Thomas' Hospital, and a House Physician at the Royal United Hospital Bath. During his stay at St Mary's Hospital in 1990, Richard was an Anatomy Demonstrator. As a SHO he was in the Rotation at Northwick Park Hospital from 1991-1993 where he gained his FRCS (Eng) in 1993 and in the same year did Neurosurgery as an SHO Queens Square, following which he became a Senior Orthopaedic SHO at Kingston Hospital & Northwick Park Hospital from 1994 to1995.

Mr Eyiyemi O Pearse MA (Oxon) FRCS (Orth) Mr Eyiyemi (Yemi) Pearse graduated from Oriel College Oxford in 1995 with a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery degree and an honours degree in Physiological Sciences. He was an Orthopaedic Specialist Registrar on the South West Thames rotation. He undertook a fellowship at the Reading Shoulder Unit specialising in arthroscopic shoulder surgery and shoulder arthroplasty. He also has an interest in arthroscopic knee surgery and undertook a fellowship at the North Sydney Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Centre. Mr Gilbert T Railton MBBch, FRCS (Wales) Gil Railton qualified in 1977 from the Welsh national school of medicine Cardiff and has been a consultant orthopaedic surgeon at Kingston Hospital since 1990. His Orthopaedic training was at the Royal London Hospital in whitechapel. He is experienced in joint replacement surgery of the hip and knee and performs almost two hundred replacements a year. Mr Fadhil Kashif MB BCh Mr Fadhil Kashif trained in Cairo University Medical School and qualified in 1976. He is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at Mayday University Hospital in Croydon, a post he has held since 1994 and has worked at the South West London Elective Orthopaedic Centre in Epsom since its inception. Mr Vipul R Patel MS(Orth), FRCS, FRCS(Orth) Vipul Patel studied medicine and completed an Orthopaedic residency in Ahmedabad, India. He moved to England in 1989 where he continued his orthopaedic and surgical training at hospitals in the South West Thames region qualifying as a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England in 1991. He completed his higher surgical training in Orthopaedic surgery at St George’s Hospital and affiliated hospitals and spent a year on fellowship in Baltimore, USA, developing subspecialist interests in the shoulder, elbow and knee In 1999 he became Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon at St Richards Hospital in Chichester and in 2001 moved to Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals. Mr Roy Twyman MBBS FRCS, FRCS(Orth) Roy Twyman is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in Knee Surgery He undertook his undergraduate studies at the Westminster Hospital, before obtaining his Basic Surgical training in London, Norwich and Cambridge He completed his Orthopaedic training in London at The Westminster, Middlesex and Royal National Orthopaedic Hospitals. He then spent a year on a fellowship at Auckland Hospital in New Zealand. Mr Christian Kinmont MB BS, FRCS(Eng), FRCS(Orth) Christian Kinmont qualified from St. George’s Hospital Medical School in 1989 and subsequently undertook specialist orthopaedic training in the South West Thames region. Additionally, he undertook a knee research fellowship at St. Mary’s Hospital, Paddington and having passed the FRCS (Trauma & Orthopaedic) examination in 2001 undertook a further knee and sports surgery fellowship at La Trobe University, Melbourne. He was appointed as a Consultant to Mayday University Hospital in the summer of 2004 as a Knee Surgeon. Mr Jonathan Bell MB BS Mr Jonathan Bell FRCS graduated in 1987 from the University of London and has held the position of Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at Kingston NHS Trust/Queen Mary’s University hospital since 1998. He trained as a knee surgeon in the UK and Australia. Jonathan has significant experience in complex surgical problems of the knee. In addition to training orthopaedic trainees he also runs a post CCST training post for consultants who wish to become a knee specialist. Jonathan has a specialist interest in arthroscopic knee surgery including ACL, PCL and combined ligament injuries to the knee. He carries out primary and revision knee replacement including partial (minimally invasive) replacement and patella replacement. Jonathan has published on the subject of patella instability and was the first to carry out trochleaplasty at SWLEOC for the management of this difficult problem. Mr Hossam Dabis Mr Dabis is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at The South West London Elective Orthopaedic centre since it was opened, as centre of excellence for Joint replacements. His main interest is joint replacements of the lower limbs including hip, knee, ankle and toe. He has done thesis on the Low contact stress total knee replacement in 1995, and is still using this implant because of the excellent long term results. He is in continual contact with the international Orthopaedic Surgeons to exchange the latest ideas and the advanced Surgical skills to improve the quality of services to his patients at SWLEOC. Mr Nickolas Bardakos Mr. Bardakos qualified from the Medical School of the University of Athens in 1994. After having completed his basic orthopaedic training in Greece, he received post-graduate (fellowship) training in limb reconstruction (Sinai Hospital of Baltimore, MD, USA) and hip & knee replacement surgery (Baylor College of Medicine, Houston, TX, USA). He then went on to train for eight months with Mr. Richard Villar in London, UK, where he focused on arthroscopic surgery of the hip. Mr Constant Busch Mr Busch attended Duke University in North Carolina, USA before obtaining his medical degree at St Thomas’s Hospital, London in 1991. He trained in general orthopaedics in the South West Thames Region and obtained his certificate of completion specialist training in August 2003. He completed a hip and knee reconstruction fellowship at the London Health Sciences Hospital in London, Ontario, Canada, and was appointed as a consultant orthopaedic surgeon at Ashford and St Peter’s NHS Trust in August 2004. Mr Busch’s special interest is primary and revision total hip and knee replacement. He also has a special interest in young patients with hip problems.
